Taverns were adapted for those who traveled by horseback – and failed to adapt to the advent of automobiles. They have been replaced by motels, pubs, cafes and other modern establishments.
But there are several reasons why taverns urgently need to be revived.
A bar where you can stay out late into the night and then not have to drive across town to get home, but just rent a room upstairs is cool. If you count how much money you spend on cabs, the price of a room in a tavern doesn’t seem that high – considering they were more like hostels than luxury hotels.
Taverns are a unique opportunity to socialize with people from all different social classes and cities. Bars are not the same, they are still segregated: somewhere soccer fans gather, somewhere trendy Almatyites, and somewhere just lovers of cheap alcohol.
In the tavern all these layers mix, get acquainted with each other and exchange stories – a good opportunity to get out of the comfort zone and learn something new. That’s why they’re featured in so many fantasy stories, movies and TV series – they’re the perfect place to start a great adventure.
And taverns also boosted America’s economy in their day: tourists and locals alike left money in them, and then that money was used to pay salaries and suppliers of alcohol and food. This circulation of finances built many cities and laid the foundation for the modern USA. Why not pull this trick again?
